ASTM D6817
ASTM D6817 defines seven standard EPS Geofoam grades. Each grade is identified by its minimum nominal density in kg/m³ and has defined minimum values for compressive resistance, flexural strength, and water absorption.
| Grade | Density (pcf) | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| EPS 12 | 0.70 | Light fill, landscaping, residential |
| EPS 15 | 0.90 | Pool backfill, light embankment |
| EPS 19 | 1.15 | Roadway embankment (most common) |
| EPS 22 | 1.35 | Bridge approaches, heavy traffic |
| EPS 29 | 1.80 | High-load applications |
| EPS 39 | 2.40 | Specialty high-load |
| EPS 46 | 2.85 | Extreme load applications |
Compressive resistance values shown are minimums per ASTM D6817. Always request certified test reports (CTRs) from the manufacturer to verify compliance.
